14th Semi-Annual Half-Pint Resale
FALL IS AROUND THE CORNER, and so is WINTER. (It’s not our fault.) That means that the 14th Half-Pint Resale at the Madison Curling Club is coming, too!
Have you been to Half-Pint Resale? It’s the area’s largest children’s consignment sale, with items for kids ages 0-12, pregnant mommas, and new parents. With tens of thousands of items sold in just three days (see the pictures!), local families can put their gently used goods back into the community and some money back in their pockets, and shoppers get great deals, knowing that their dollars are heading right back into the community. Because of our commitment to the community, we’re a member of Dane Buy Local and hope to introduce you to other great local, independent and community-centered businesses through their wide network.
Let’s get the sale on your calendar – a several hour volunteer presale (allowing for folks to vary when they arrive, and how long they stay), a bit later consignor presale (making it easier to come after you or your partner’s work day), and a FULL DAY OF SATURDAY PUBLIC SALE SHOPPING that starts early in the morning for your thrifty early-birds, and extends late enough into the evening that allows you to spend the daytime with your fam, and your early evening catching bargains. Finally, you can find even more good deals running into Sunday during the Half-Price sale. For those of you shop our presales, we highly recommend taking a second look at the sale post the presales because there are things you’ll never see until they are unearthed!

For those of you who are new to consigning, check out the Consigning area of our website for loads of info that will explain how it all works, and learn about all of the fabulous perks of consigning including 70% of your sales (the highest of any other consignment sale in the area and always 70% whether or not you volunteer), and a special pre-sale all for you!.

Barcodes you say? Once you are registered through our online system, you be able to print out barcodes that correspond with your specific Consignor Number and the Price. Barcodes are then copied easily onto labels. Labels are affixed to a tag, giving you the flexibility to tag with a glass of wine in front of the TV or with a gaggle of friends (you can see where our priorities continue to lie, hey?). Don’t worry, we spell it all out for you on our consignor page and in the pdf “How to Half-Pint”.
And guess what? Choose to donate any goods not sold post sale to the non-profits that Half-Pint supports and you will be automatically be eligible to win a $100 Food Fight Gift Certifcate (yum!).

We’re kicking things back into gear (and quick – have you seen all of those school ads out there? And I don’t know about you, but the cool weather this morning has me – just briefly – dreaming of fall). Hope you are planning to join us the weekend of September 9 and 10 for the 8th semi-annual Half-Pint Resale! Last sale we sold over 19,000 items in just two days, putting your goods back out into the community and a few extra dollars into local pockets. We love that everything stays right here in our community – we’re an Entirely Local operation.

The sale will be held again at the Goodman Center – We’re thrilled that they continue to work with us to make it possible for us to take over their busy center for so many days. New to this sale is expanded space at the center. We’ll be rearranging a bit and using another art-room space in the same building, mostly for gear and other large goods. Never been to Half-Pint and are wondering how this whole gig works? Read here!
We’ve increased our hours ever so slightly to allow for more shopping. As the sale grows and increases in popularity throughout the community, we want to make sure you have the time to get what you need without greatly expanding our days and adding to expenses (and decreasing consignor percentages). We added another half-hour onto the Volunteer Sale time (giving volunteers a FULL two hours to shop). We also added an extra hour onto the end of the day on Friday so after you put the kids to bed you can head over for a more leisurely look through the racks that were stuffed early in the morning and find a few additional treasures. (We’re biased, but 9pm is also a great time to grab the girlfriends and head out for a drink afterwards; we’re just sayin’.) We highly recommend taking a second look at the sale post the presales because there are things you’ll never see until they are unearthed!
We’ll continue to offer our Loot Valet service which allows shoppers to leave their purchased items with a volunteer attendant to later drive-up and load their great finds into the car with ease. No more fretting over a distant parking spot and the idea of carrying everything you want to buy – so Shop Away! Consignors, we’ll have similar service for consignor drop-off as well.
Of course, the HIGH QUALITY of the goods being sold and the incredibly affordable prices won’t change a bit! As veteran thrift shoppers, we know how important this aspect is to the success of the sale. We take great pride in making sure that the items being put on the sale floor are in gently used condition. The AFFORDABLE prices, well we certainly can’t take any credit for that. We have been so impressed with the fair and affordable prices consignors pass onto shoppers and believe this is cornerstone to Half-Pint’s continued success. Half-Pint Resale is only as good as its consignors and we think the world of the folks who Consign with us.

Check out the Consigning page on our website to learn about all of the fabulous perks of consigning (including 70% of your sales, and a special pre-sale all for you!). Make sure you look through the Tagging Guidelines and our What to Sell documents on this same page, as we continue to tweak all of these to make them more comprehensive. You’ll also note that we are no longer accepting Cribs (note that we are accepting other similar items – read on).
We’re continuing to work hard to make Drop-Off of your items during Consignor Check-In as easy as possible, and have even more strategies to make it go quickly, as it did last sale.

The sale will be held again at the Goodman Center – We’re thrilled that they continue to work with us to make it possible for us to take over their busy center for so many days. If you see the staff while you are there, please make sure to say Thanks! There aren’t a lot of space options in town and we feel very lucky to have scored the best.
The main thing you’ll notice is that we slightly anded the times for the Volunteer and Consignor sales due to high demand. We highly recommend taking a second look at the sale post these presales because there are things you’ll never see until they are unearthed! But we also understand the need for a few more minutes for one more rack, one more pass through the toy section, one more looksie at the linens… (It’s so hard to stop shopping!)

2 Days of the Best in Kid’s Thrift is coming your Way
It doesn’t feel like Fall, and we hope it doesn’t creep up on us too fast. However, you can’t deny that it’s reaching the end of July, AND many of us are starting to think about back to school. We promise to enjoy August, but in the mean time, it wouldn’t hurt to take a few seconds to prepare for what will inevitably come.
Enter Half-Pint Resale. No reason not to take advantage of some summer nights and glass of wine to start going through the basement bins to figure out what you can sell to make room for what you’ll need this fall, and figure out what you need so you can be ready to take advantage of thrifty prices on quality items you need (ok, and want).
First, get the sale on your calendar. We’ll again be holding the sale at the ever Awesome Goodman Community Center, located on the near east side of Madison, in one of our favorite hoods (lots of awesome shops on Atwood Avenue, and situated right on the bike path!) We’ll also continue to have Loot Valet service which allows shoppers to leave their purchased items with a volunteer attendant to later drive-up and load their great finds into the car with ease. First, we ask that you take a minute to read through the ins and outs of consigning. Read carefully through “what to sell”. Then click, fill out the form, and with another click of the “Woohoo” Button, you’re in. From there, you’ll get an email back with your number (or a confirmation of the number you’ve used in the past if you a Half-Pint Consigning Veteran). Download and print out the tagging template and the Tagging Guidelines and you’re in business. We have been so impressed with the fair and affordable prices consignors pass onto shoppers and believe this is cornerstone to Half-Pint’s continued success. We’re thrilled that they continue to work with us to make it possible for us to take over so much of their space for so many days.

Maternity Clothing
The biggest CHANGE to the sale, other than instituting all kinds of little things that will make your consigning and shopping experience even better, is that new to this sale, we are discontinuing the consignment of maternity clothing.
No, don’t be sad!! We’ll keep all of the essentials you can’t do without (belly bands, maternity tights, and other maternity gear and accessories, as well as nursing bras, tanks, etc.), but we no longer will have the circular racks of maternity clothing. Here is why: We found that pregnant folks came to shop for baby items and that few really spent much time shopping for Maternity. Consignors who spent a lot of time nicely hanging and tagging their maternity were walking away with smaller checks, and because we have so much fabulous baby/children items, we want to make ample space for all of the other thousands and thousands of items for sale (so look for specialized round racks at the next sale!)
For those of you who have maternity items to sell or are looking for high quality but budget conscious maternity wear, we have some Great places to recommend. These stores both have specialized areas for fabulous maternity items and are known for their selection. You can find out more on our web site in the FAQ!

BIGGER and BETTER – Fall sale FUN and Registration
Fall Half-Pint Resale is here!
We are so excited to share with you the improvements and changes we have been working on to make the sale even bigger and better than ever. Below you will find information about the sale and details on the improvements you will find along the way as you prepare to consign and shop. We are certainly kicking things into gear and hope that you will join us in September as a consignor/shopper.

NEW LOCATION
Loyal blog followers, you’ve already read the good news about our move to the Atwood neighborhood community center on Madison’s near eastside- formally named the Goodman Center. The sale will be held in the 6,000+ square foot gymnasium (the square building on the right of the center in the picture below), which will give us double the sale space as previous sales and also open up opportunities for a better layout and flow of shoppers. The Goodman Center is very easy to find, as it is situated just off Atwood Avenue on the near east side.

DRIVE-UP SERVICE
To make things even more fabulous for consignors and shoppers we will have DRIVE-UP Service available for the item drop-off and for the two-day sale. The Loot Valet service will allow shoppers to leave their purchased items with a volunteer attendant to later drive-up and load their great finds into the car with ease. No more fretting over a distant parking spot and the idea of carrying everything you want to buy – so Shop Away! Consignors, we’ll have similar service for consignor drop-off as well.
NEW CHECK OUT SYSTEM
We have been hard at work, fine-tuning our check-out system so buyers have a better experience purchasing their items. We know we don’t have a fancy system, but if you have shopped at past sales, you will notice a few new tricks during the check-out process this time around. Our goal is to make check-out easier for consignors and for volunteers, and reducing any opportunity for error.
FRUGAL SHOPPERS ON THE FLY
And for those of you out there who are able to stick to your shopping list and walk away with a small armful of treasure, or for the shopper who is limited to a work-day break-time, we can now offer you an EXPRESS LANE to make your shopping experience more doable. We heard from a few shoppers who had to leave empty-handed because of a lengthy check-out line, and well, we just can’t have that. Equal shopping access for all!
And a couple of things that haven’t changed –SAME GREAT QUALITY

We appreciate how lengthy the check-in process for consignors can be because of this and thank you in advance for you patience and understanding while we evaluate items being consigned. The AFFORDABLE prices, well we certainly can’t take any credit for that. We have been so impressed with the fair and affordable prices consignors pass onto shoppers and believe this is cornerstone to Half-Pint’s continued success. Half-Pint Resale is only as good as its consignors and we have LOTS to brag about in this area!
HALF-PRICE on SATURDAY AFTERNOON
While we know that Half-Pint Resale varies from other consignment sales, we continue to remain convinced that the half-price portion of the sale on Saturday needs to include all items*(the only exclusion to this rule is any item with a green-colored tag that has an original price of + $75). After a number of sales under our belt, we have learned that the items that consignors tend to sell the majority of what they had left prior to the half-price portion and therefore take home more money and fewer leftover items. Plus- shoppers LOVE the fact that they don’t have to be cautious when shopping the half-price sale, as they know almost every item they find will be reduced by 50% at check-out.

Register by August 15 and you will be entered in a drawing to win one of our GREEN GOODIES (as in eco-green, not color). We have been filling up our free time acquiring re-claimed items of all kinds and turning them into Half-Pint paraphernalia. There is a growing array of one-of-a-kind items that you could be the proud owner of, if you just register to consign by August 15th.
And………we are gonna make this super easy for you. We now have a super fantastic ON-LINE REGISTRATION FORMS (new consignor registration form here, and returning consignor registration form here) that can get you registered lickety split – OOOH……AAAH!
SPECIAL NOTE: Returning consignors, you will notice on the website that we have instituted a $5 consignment fee for this sale. It a small amount for each of you but a HUGE help for us. Our move to the Goodman Center meant that our space costs went from a few hundred $ to a few thousand. It was a hard jump for us to swallow but one that we really couldn’t afford not to. Your fee will help off-set a portion of the cost and therefore allow us to continue committing time to this valuable community event. Thanks for sticking with us, you won’t be sorry. There isn’t any reason to wait! Register now, and start purging and tagging!
